As the cost of living crisis worsens in New Zealand, more people are turning to side jobs to make ends meet. Data from Stats NZ shows that the number of individuals with multiple jobs increased from 187,600 in 2019 to 220,900 by mid-2024. A new survey, conducted by Megan Alexander from Robert Half, reveals that nearly half of New Zealand workers are considering a second job, with financial necessity being the main driver (42%), followed by discretionary spending (32%). Gen X (57%) are the most likely to seek additional income, while Baby Boomers (33%) are the least likely.
